Fire rated doors are a requirement for some businesses, but if you’re a homeowner, you may be curious about this as well. After all, fire safety is important for both homes and businesses. How can you tell if your door is a fire door?
Determining if Your Front Door is Fire Rated
You can always look for the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) label. Sometimes it’s easy to find, sometimes it can be a bit more tricky. Try looking:
- On the hinge side of the door
- On the top or bottom of the door
- For any raised or textured surfaces (over time, the label may possibly be painted over)
Most manufacturers make fire rated doors—so another option is asking your installer (and looking at the manufacturer’s website)!
